THEORETICAL CLASS
Today, we started with the Lesson 5 Games & Sports.
In this link you can see the presentation: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9A1lFjdd7btS0dwZWFfQ2FhZlk/edit
First of all, we were talking about the differences between games and sports which are the rules and they have an institution behind.
The most important thing when you play is a purpose which is to enjoy the game. A game is also a free activity because children can be creative. Nevertheless, Sport is something related with adult life, I mean, a sport has more detailed rules than a game. But also a play has restrictions such as time and place.
It is important to clarify that in English the word game can be a sport. So to play is the word to refer to a game in Spanish.
Later, we were talking about the Educative Values of sport if it has which are different for an individual sport and a team sport. So, for example, a value is team work, cooperation, effort, get the best of one self, willpower, how to win, how to lose, self-achievement, among others.
Nevertheless, sport is not good always because it promotes competitions, winners and losers...
Secondly, we saw a video about the training of children in Shangai. You can see the video in this link:
I think that this methodology is cruel and terrible. Trainers make a lot of pressure to children and sometimes children cry because they feel ache in their bodies. I know that to be a Olimpic person you have to train a lot but with different methods. For example a method which motived you to train and to achive the result. Instead of methods which you suffer.
In the video parents are who choose that their children have to be Elite persons but sometimes what parents choose and not what children like. So parents have to choose taking into account the opinion of their children. My opinion is that sports are wonderful for children but with the correct ways to teach it.
Finally, we started to see the presentation about Games & Sports.
There are a traditional classification of Games & Sports which are Individual, Dual (Tennis, Badminton, table tennis...) and Team games (Football, Rugby...).
Moreover, there are a classification taking into account the appoach which are Invasion (Basketball, Handball, Football, Hockey...) they are more common in Spain, Net/ Wall (Badminton, Tennis, Voleyball...) they are more common in Spain, Striking and Fielding games (Baseball, Criket, Softball...)they are more common in EEUU, Target Games (Golf, Criquet, Bowling...) they are more common in EEUU.
Moreover, there are a classification taking into account the rules which are Low organization games and High organitation games (Sport).
There are different kind of use the teaching of a sport. You can use a game to teach another knowledge. So games can be a content of teaching or you can use it to reach another content.
When you are teaching a sport it is better to play first and later the teacher have to introduce little by little some rules. In order to adapt what they know to new things.
In order to select games and sports you have to take into account some things:
-Enjoyment & Success.
-Maximum participation.
-Similarity of strategies. Because there are sports with the same rules but you have to adapt them to the new sport.
-Physical and emotional safety.
-Learning.
Finally, a teacher shoul let children to modified the game or the sport, to be creative. Also the teacher has to vary the games, to demostrate the gameand to explain it.
I think that this Lesson is very useful to learn because I think that in Primary Education the base is to play games and sports. But before this presentation I have never considered the classification of games, the different approaches to teach them and the criteria to select them. Nevertheless, now I know what steps I have to follow in order to choose the best games and sport taking into account the age, the purpose, the learning, and the educative values.
